Characteristics of our Rollers / Wheels

What differentiates our rollers from others?

Main Characteristics:
1) Super quiet - the only sound you can hear is the bearing humming (on a smooth surface)
2) Cool - minimal contact area due to use of twin steel ball bearing
3) Durable - injection moulded
                  - use of twin steel ball bearing greatly reduce heat and friction, vastly improving the life and performance of the roller
4) Non-staining
5) Great balance between durability, high load bearing capability and noise management

The best part about these wheels is as the load goes up, it starts to differentiate itself from the rest of the boys. A scrawny person can easily navigate a fully loaded huge luggage installed with these wheels.

Tips : if you're in a middle of a trip and one of the 'tyre' gave way, causing the luggage to wobble and hip hop, you can still save the  trip by removing the rest of the tyres. Apart from the extra noise, few will notice.

So you think there is no heat? A great amount of heat is produced when the shaft rubs on the wall of the roller bore when you push the trolley. When the heat comes close to the melting point of the plastic, this happens. That's why steel roller bearings are mandatory in many industrial, critical applications.

Some manufacturers went as far as faking the 'twin steel ball bearing look'

Just to reveal the plastic stub beneath the metallic hub when removed. Moral of the story is what you see may not be what you think you're getting.....
(Just to demo that manufacturers know what should be done but is not doing {due to high cost of bearings} in order to stay competitive.

Psst: If you have a grand ($1k) or so to burn, you could get a Rimowa. You get a mini single steel ball bearing in the mid of each of their wheels. 😂

Or a Tumi

Or a Victorinox

Congrats, now you know........

Some kind soul advised that the roller wheels we are using are known as roller blade type wheels :))

Anecdote

Speechless

On one particular day, a customer came along with a luggage looking flustered and angry. The customer was apparently pissed off that the wheels of the luggage which cost quite a 'huge' amount didn't last a month and went on a lengthy negative narrative on the brand and in particular the wheels.

Smarter now, the customer wants to see the wheels that I am installing before proceeding with the work.

I proudly showed the customer my wheel.

The customer gave a suspicious look and said, "you don't have the original?"

Speechless 😅
